SYMBIOSIS

international studio on cities and climate change @ POLIMI, 3-14 June 2024

The workshop Symbiosis is designed and delivered by co+re (Davisi in her capacity of visiting professor, and Darko as guest academic) at Politecnico di Milano, Lecco campus from 3 to 14 June 2024. The program is coordinated by Prof. Giuliana Iannaccone and Prof. Gabriele Masera.

The opening of the Studio focus is on resource approach for sustainable urban regeneration. The guiding vision is that of cities as resourceful places. Their cultural and natural abundance needs to be carefully and decisively engaged,

planned and designed towards strategically defined goals. Therefore, we adopt the concept of SYMBIOSIS where the coexistence between city and nature has mutual benefits and supports the prosperity of all members.

The Studio is an intensive, workshop-like activity based on teamwork and bringing

together, besides students from Politecnico di Milano, an international, interdisciplinary group of visiting professors and students from Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok (ERASMUS+ program) and Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA; therefore, it is an opportunity for personal and professional growth in an engaging and diverse cultural environment.

The overarching aim of the project is to explore radical ideas, with an ambition to advance concrete, strategic and design re-thinking of the system at large. Design experiments focus on open spaces and built forms that support the everyday well-being of the inhabitants and their social needs, while introducing future-proof measures for adaptation to dramatic change. The project is operate across scales: architectural/human scale, landscape/urban design scale and the strategic, urban/territorial planning scale. The concrete focus and the site-specific design emerges during the workshop.
